The IBEC oversees Safety training for individuals working with potential biohazards and Ethics Training for individuals working with human subjects, or human derived data or materials. See more details about training procedures and requirements.
Are you working with human subject or human derived data or materials?
If so, you must complete the following before you start working with human subjects or human sample/data:
1. Online "Human Subject and BioEthics Training” available at the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Website.
2. Online NCBE course on the NCBE platform.
- These courses are necessary to protect the privacy and rights of research participants.
- They must be renewed every three years.
- Visitor without a KAUST email address can access CITI with their personal emails, but are encouraged to change to their KAUST email at the first available opportunity.

Does your work involve the use of animal or plant samples?
If so, you must complete the online NCBE ethics course on the NCBE platform. before you start working with these samples.
- The training must be renewed every three years.

Are you working with chemical, biological, radiological and/or physical hazards?
If so, visit HSE website and contact the HSE team to discuss your training needs. Minimum training requirements:

- Laboratory Safety
