Scientific Diver

New Applicant for Scientific Diver

Due to resource constraints, we are currently not accepting new divers applications

New Applicant for Visiting Diver

Only visitors holding a valid AAUS Letter of Reciprocity are accepted to be enrolled in the Scientist Diving Program at this time.

Recommended steps to complete before coming to KAUST, as the approval process may take time:

1. Create a Visitor account on Salute.

2. Your Physician needs to complete and sign the AAUS Medical Evaluation of Fitness for SCUBA Diving form .

3. Complete the Dive Medical Exam in Salute. Download the Occupational Health "Fit to Dive" certificate.

4. Complete the New Diver Intake form and include the following documents:

a. Letter of reciprocity.

b. Copy of all (Scientific and non-scientific) Dive Logs.

c. DAN Insurance. All divers must have dive accident insurance covering scientific diving activities. Please consult with your insurance provider (DAN Insurance, DAN Europe, etc) to ensure your diving activities coverage while in KAUST. Your country of residence may determine where to purchase your insurance.

d. Occupational Health "Fit to Dive" certificate. This can be submitted later, but is required prior to any water activities.

5. Successful completion of Open Water Checkout Dive.

Dive Safety Plan

All dive plans must be submitted in Bloop. Please follow the instructions of the BLOOP Projects, Dive Plans, and Dive Logs SOP.

Snorkeler

NOTE: Freediving is prohibited. The maximum authorized depth is 3 m with limited breath-hold.

New Applicant for Snorkeler (including Visitors)

Training requirements in the Dive Safety Manual have been temporarily waived by the DCB effective 16 November 2023. These requirements will be reevaluated as resources become available.

1. Complete the KAUST Snorkeling Medical Declaration and Experience form.

2. Complete the Snorkeling Authorization: Declaration of Medical Fitness for Snorkeling course in Salute. Download the Authorization to Snorkel Certificate from Salute.

3. Complete the New Diver Intake form and include the following documents:

a. Authorization to Snorkel Certificate from Salute

b. Copies of diving-related certification cards. Provide copies of all cards.

c. DAN Insurance. All divers are required to have dive accident insurance that covers scientific diving activities. Please consult with your insurance provider (DAN Insurance, DAN Europe, etc) to ensure coverage for your diving/snorkeling activities while in KAUST. Your country of residence may determine where to purchase your insurance.

Snorkeling Safety Plan

An existing member of the KAUST Scientific Diving Program (Diver or Snorkeler) with current DAN DFA Pro Training certificate must supervise the snorkeling activities. The DSO reserves the right to review the ratio of visitors/participants to Lead on a case-by-case basis.

1. Complete the Snorkeling Plan. Only previously registered snorkeler can be listed in a Snorkeling Plan.

2. Upload the completed Snorkeling Plan to the Snorkeling Plan Submission form for review.

3. The DSO will review the Snorkeling Plan. Upon approval, an email notification will be sent to the submitter.
